1920 Best Sixty dozer. July 26, 2008

Updated: Nov 14, 2021

We have acquired a 1920 Best Sixty dozer. It is definitely a rare find and is now on display at the Clayton Museum.

The dozer is a 1920 Best Sixty. It was a 4 cylinder gas driven engine that produced 60 horsepower. It is definately a rare find and is now on display at the Clayton Museum.

CL Best's Best Gas Traction Company and Holt Machinery merged their companies in 1925 to create Catepillar. The Best Sixty was first introduced in 1919. Getting this dozer was no easy task. Getting there, over the sixty miles of back country roads, some of which are sheer granite surfaces where there is just not a road, loading the dozer and bringing it out of the area was a 14 hour trip. Unloading this 26,000 pound piece of equipment was much easier and took just two hours.
